After years of searching at conventions and used book stores, I have re-assembled a collection of the Marvel Novel series books (+1) that I read in my late teens. My favorites are #5, and #10. Anyone else old enough to have read these. Lots of familiar names, the Avengers story in the compilation (#9), was written by Jim Shooter. After

Yeah, I remember reading quite a few of these at the time. Fun stuff! No
surprise, I still have all the ones featuring Spider-Man.

I read about three of them. I still have two of them. Has anybody read them recently, as an adult? With some objective distance?
How do they hold up in terms of the writing quality?

Those books were lots of fun to read back in the day. I especially when and where I read the Iron Man book, though I don't recall the story. I can remember only a few bits from the Fantastic Four and Captain America books. Those books were in my collection up until about eight years ago when I purged my apartment of non-essential stuff. I, too, am curious to see how they hold up after nearly thirty years.

I have some of those books: 4, 5, 9, 10 & 11. They were fun to read.

I just got the Great Gold Steal and will be reading it soon.
I remember liking the Avengers and FF novels, as well as the X-Men story in the anthology.

I have all of the Marvel 70s novels, plus the two 60s ones. I've only read the Avengers Earth Wrecker and the Hulk: Stalker From the Stars ones so far though. I remember hearing somewhere that the deadline for the Hulk one was so tight they basically had to go with the first draft. Having read it, I'm not surprised. Nothing really stood out about the Avengers novel, although there was a fun bit when they summarized every member to date. Of course, at the time "every Avenger" meant 8 people. If they did that today, there wouldn't be any room left in the book for the story...

Wes, I do have the Cap and Avengers book, that gun in Cap's hand is just odd. I now have a new book to hunt down, I never even knew the existence of a second Superman book.
