I read your Indiana Jones comic and I think you where one of the few that go the superhero secret identity thing that came with it, and besides, it was great fun to boot. Ever considered to do some more, for Dark Horse? I hear another movie is in the works..

INDIANA JONES was one of the most unpleasant
experiences of my career -- and that's saying
something. The LucasFilm liaison was from
another planet.

Mikael--Check out this FAQ entry for a more detailed account from JB.
http://www.byrnerobotics.com/FAQ/listing.asp?ID=3&T1=Que stions+about+Aborted+Storylines#65
('m sort of fond of this question, since it's the first thing I ever asked JB after I joined the old Net64 board!)

That's sad. Lucas seems to genuinally love comics, and it's real sad that the people working for him is tripping up what could have been a truly great ride, most asurely appriciated by him as well.

Sad to hear that, JB. But I heard that Dark Horse does a better job at dealing with licensors nowadays. Maybe you could try again another day? It would be a good opportunity to draw some cool seaplanes!
(Of course, since you did an Aliens book for DH some years ago, you probably know much better than I do how it is to work on a movie licensed book there...)
Edited because I mixed up hovercrafts and seaplanes. Doh!

The ALIENS project was a hoot. Apparently I broke just about every rule Fox had, concerning the use of the characters, but I never knew it! That's because I had a stalwart champion -- Ronnie Noyze -- standing between me and the studio. It was her first editing assignment, and by gar she was not going to let anything mess it up!

Didn't the ALIENS thing run as installments in PREVIEWS or something? I bought the actual comic when it came out, and found it a great bit of fun.
Any interest in working with licensed characters again? And if so, any in particular you'd care to have a go at?

I had seen a few of the Aliens episodes in the Previews. The first time I met JB, the guy in front of me in line had a copy of the collected comic for him to sign. I made the comment to my cousin that I didn't even know they had collected it and the next thing I knew, JB pulled one from under his little signing-desk thing, signed it and handed it to me. One of the coolest things to happen to me at a con.

Hmm, maybe with Mrs. Noyze editing we could see a new JB Indiana Jones book then?
Anyone knows if she is still at Dark Horse?

I loved those first two issues of Indiana Jones. More than any of the other subsequent issues, those issues by JB really captured the look and feel of the movie. It's a shame that the other people involved couldn't just let him have a free hand to tell the stories he wanted to tell, becuase he obviously "got it" more than they did.
