Romita Jr is pure gold. Just bought the Eternals HC. The artwork is superb and the story could have been really good if "incredibly stupid Civil War Iron man" wasn`t in it.
BTW: loved the Armor Wars II by Byrne and Romita Jr. That deserves a hardcover treatment because my single comics is falling apart from reading.

told him once--with tongue only HALF planted in cheek--that I felt
betrayed by him back in the 80s when he left AMAZING SPIDER-MAN to go
over to do X-MEN, and that I've held a grudge against the X-Men ever since!

I liked JR Jr's run on Spider-Man in the 80's in part because he gave Peter Parker a different look. Peter had pretty much looked the same since well, JR Sr. Jr. gave him a little different hair style, a little more modern. In general, I liked the look of Amazing Spider-Man when he drew it. When he moved on to X-Men his style changed to something that was not quite to my particular tastes. It was ok to me, but I wouldn't really call myself a fan of it. Later as more years went by his style had changed more so that when he returned to Spider-Man, I was a fan of his again. Thinking on it now, I wonder if it really had as much to do with his style or maybe I also had a hard time forgiving him for leaving Amazing Spider-Man back then!

him agonize over the comments that "Romita's a hack" and "Steve Ditko
should always be drawing Spider-Man"
Man, how can anyone call JR Sr. a hack?

Just read the interview.
I think I may have been at the Spider-Man editorial retreat JR JR refers to, in
which the then-editor in chief supposedly said to him, "Just because your
last name is Romita doesn't mean you're going to get everything you want."
I have no recollection of that ever being said at the retreat, and I can't
imagine this particular person saying that to JR JR--or anyone--in a serious
context.
But I'll take John at his word--and slap that former EIC upside the head next
time I see him.

John Romita Jr. does kick @$$. One of my first Daredevil comics (actually
probably my very first) was a double-sized issue he did with Ann Nocenti.
It had Daredevil getting blitzkrieged by one villain after another -- just
getting beat to hell ( which I guess is what always happens to Daredevil in
post-Frank-Miller comics...). It was so intense, and I loved it. I must've
read it over and over ...
Another of my earliest comic-book experiences was reading Uncanny X-
Men 183, also by JRJR. It was a back-issue by the time I got to it -- I read
it roughly contemporaneously with the above-mentioned Daredevil issu.
It's a totally different era for JRJR's art, but in my eyes it's equally
awesome. UX 183 the one where Piotr dumps Kitty on the first few pages,
and that scene still breaks my heart when I read it now.

World War Hulk, a 5 issue miniseries. There was also a John Romita Jr. 30th Anniversary Special that came out about a month ago. He also drew the Fallen Son: Captain America special (which was the middle of five specials focusing on the death of Captain America, each drawn by a different artist).

How is World War Hulk? I haven't read any Hulk since my return to comics a year ago. He's not a character I've ever followed steadily unless he's written by a favorite like JB or someone. I'm thinking about checking it out for the Romita art, but don't want to bother if the story sucks.
Any opinions?

This Hobgoblin cover in the '80's is burned into my brain forever.
Cemented him as my favorite ASM artist.

The series itself has not started yet but some tie-in issues and a prologue special are already out. I haven't read them yet so I can't really judge. It does look exciting, though.

Thanks for the info Brandon. I'll probably wind up buying the first issue at least. Some of the stories at Marvel have been so bad lately that I hesitate to try new titles even if they do feature one of my favorite artists.
