Hi John, I was just wondering about a comment you made back while the Next Men were being published.

It was a passing comment that really you could only ever see yourself drawing those characters.

My question is in reference to the "fictional" characters within those stories that were produced by Dollar Comics and whether they are included in that statement?

You may or may not be aware, not that it's entirely important, that there are a few of us discussing a "Studio" of Byrne fans. I was thinking, to myself, somewhat harmlessly that it would be cool to do "Dollar Comic" stories. Basically use these characters, Dr Trogg, Brute et al and present them as they might be in their own comics!

Given that the Studio is a John Byrne fan based venture, with the emphisis on fan. I wouldn't want to do something that you wouldn't be okay with. Anyway, I was just wondering if this might be an option before saying to Anthony and the others, "Hey how about this?" ;-)

Thanks for your time.

There was some talk at the time of my Legend cronies taking on some of the Dollar Comics characters for a "Dollar Month", but like so many bright ideas, it never went beyond the talk stage.

I loved the whole "Legend" aspect. I only wished that -all- the creators were as productive as you!

So you wouldn't crucify us for taking a little stab at a couple of "fanbased" dollar comic stories John?

FanFic is, by definition, up for grabs.

On this subject John, I re-read the "Origin" flashback in JBNM 24, Power 2. Where Doctor Trogg refreshes Ben Horowitz's memory.

He refers to the love triangle between Trogg, Candy Sweet and Maxwell Braddock. His discovery that Maxwell and Action Maxx are one in the same spurred him on to make an irrational decision and inadvertently kills Candy, with the whole turn of events birthing the great animosity between Maxx and Trogg.

So to the question, from my John Byrne class, storytelling 101. The villain of the piece, lies. Would this be true or perhaps more accurately could this be true, that Trogg lied, at least in some part. Clearly the whole love triangle, in particular his feelings for Candy were coloured from his own perspective.

;-) Not asking you to write this for me but trying to pull all my JB lessons together, LOL
