You may have noticed a paucity of commission pieces being posted lately. There's a reason. I've been stuck on one piece, unable to get myself into the right mood to finish it. "Pulling teeth" is an apt metaphor. Here's the piece, a 20x30, as it sits on my board today, more than two weeks since I started it. One of Eric Ladd's villain montages. (Hence the apology.) A definite example of why I should ALWAYS listen to my inner voices. When Jim Warden first asked me to do this one, I declined. I have no interest in the Green Goblin. In fact, I would go so far as to say I actively dislike the Green Goblin. I have long felt his elevation to being Spider-Man's "Number One Foe" was completely undeserved. That place belongs to Doctor Octopus! Anyway, Jim would occasionally come back to this piece, asking if maybe I had changed my mind, and finally, about six months ago (maybe more) I relented. And then the thing sat festering in the back of my mind as I kept putting it off, and putting it off, and putting it off. . . . So now, I give up! There are other commissions waiting on The List that I really WANT to do! If nothing else, this photo gives you a peek into my decidedly erratic way of "building" these pieces! Sorry, Eric!!!

From what I see, the finished product would have looked nice.
Maybe one day..................

Wow, looks great!
I do agree with JB's thoughts on Green Goblin as Spidey's archenemy. I think it's the same thing that happened to Gwen Stacy. Gwen Stacy is so important because she was killed. The Goblin is so important because he was responsible for her death. And then he died. And then they couldn't help but make him a "legacy character". And then he came back. And then...
I remember I counted it up one time and the original Green Goblin only appeared in something like 6 or 8 issues prior to his famous death in ASM #122. I like the Goblin, but he never should've died (and neither should Gwen). He should be that villain who keeps coming back and has no memory of The Goblin while in Norman Osborn mode....and his son is Peter's best friend! It's a great dynamic that should've been playing out for decades now. But alas....
JB, I hope this piece gets finished someday!

Well, so much for my montage of all versions of Green and Hob Goblins....
Seriously, it's definitely looking good!

Wow, this is the first I've ever heard of your dislike for the Goblin, JB.
Regardless, the commission so far looks fantastic!

What a bummer, it was looking great too. All of Eric's villain montage pieces are fantastic. Although you weren't "into it" I'm sure if finished, it would have been no exception.
Hey, I think I see Wally Wood's "22 panels" peeking out at the top right!

Hey, I think I see Wally Wood's "22 panels" peeking out at the top right!•• Yup. For decades I had a xerox copy of that famous advice, until a couple of years ago Chris Ryall sent me a laminated copy he'd found at some Con. Anyone who draws comics should keep a copy of this piece close at hand!

Can't say your dislike shows at all in the quality of the piece. I hope you manage to suck it up and finish it.

For a character you dislike, that was shaping up to be a beautiful work of art. If only some other artists could show such respect to characters they profess to love.

Understandable, I have more than one piece that has gone partially finished because my heart just was not into it from the beginning. And I agree with those who think the Green Goblin should not be viewed as Spidey's top nemesis. Doc Oc all the way. Looks like a great effort thus far though!

I'd like to see a whole commission devoted to that cover scene to ASM #14 that I see to the left of the piece. Spidey, Green Goblin, Hulk and The Enforcers! Oh yeah!
