Here's a placeholder, until I get a better scan, of the commision done for Alex and Brook Lopez, The "F" stands for "Flash's Rogue's Gallery."

And now a story: When Jim Warden first asked me if I would like to do this particular "F," the character was the Flying Fox. Remembering a story from childhood, in which young Bruce Wayne adopts that identity during a visit to Smallville (also referenced in GENERATIONS), I agreed to do it. Turned out, tho, that Alex and Brook had a different Flying Fox in mind, a character I didn't know and so didn't care about. So I said I'd rather not do it. This prompted Jim to get back to Alex and ask if they would mind if I did "my" Flying Fox, and Alex agreed. But this made me vaguely uncomfortable. I felt like this was forcing them to accept a character for their alphabet that THEY didn't know or care about. So I kept putting off doing the drawing, as Jim kept nudging me. Finally, I asked if they would not rather have some OFTHER "F" character -- one they actually LIKED. And they came up with the Flash's Rogues Gallery, which was generally more satisfying to all concerned!

And, no, before anyone asks, I don't know how many more letters there will be, or how many they will ask ME to do!

Nice compromise and a very playful piece. How will anyone ever look at their collection when the art on the boxes is so good!

Love the pipes and the way the villains are interacting with them.

Brilliant. Oh, and I love how you've captured the mischievous/evil nature of the characters in their facial expressions.

…he mischievous/evil nature of the characters…

••

Ah, those were the days! When villains were "mischievous." When the Joker robbed banks and didn't concoct terrorist schemes!

By the way, anybody else notice how much Captain Boomerang, modeled here exactly on Carmine Infantino's version, looks like James May (TOP GEAR)?

I sadly know next to nothing about these characters (never really read the Flash), but it's a beautiful commission. The background on this piece is amazing.
