In order to seperate this from the main board, as to leave the "Giant-Size Fantastic Four" #1 there, this posting a new thread in the Fan Fic area.
We have a new project that ties into the "Fantastic Four Art Challenge"/"Giant-Size Fantastic Four" #1 project!
Mike O'Brien is going to write a 1960s' style "Fantastic Four" story, set in the pre-Galactus era (approx. 1961-1965). The length will probably be anywhere from 12 (half a Silver-Age story) to 24 pages (a full book), at Mike's discretion.
I figure what we're going for here is pretending that this story is a "lost" 1960s' story, and it would have been a reprinted story in the "Giant-Size Fantastic Four" #1.
F Ron Miller has volunteered to pencil the story, and I figure we can see if there are others that would want to finish inking, lettering and coloring the story, like we had done with JB's story in the "FF Challenge."
So whaddya say?

To clarify, I've volunteered to do three pages worth.
Having said that, I'd like to ink, color and letter my
pages as well if there's no objections.
A modest proposal: Let those who wish to be
involved volunteer the number of pages they'd like to
do so that Mike can craft a story in proportion to the
available talent pool willing to do the job.
or
Allow me and any others immediately interested to
get the ball rolling by doing the opening of the story
and hopefully that may interest others to join the in
on the fun,

Ok! I just sent F Ron a long rambling e-mail stating my intentions... and here's the thing fellows - give me, say... a week or so, and I'll have something for you. Probably "Mavel Method", which allows for more freedom and creativity on your parts, and I'll script it when it's done.
As F Ron noted, let me know who's interested, and I'll shape it and pace it accordingly!
Thanks, fellows! Hope you can wait a week!
Mike

Uhmm this sounds kinda neat.
Some questions though.
Will this have to be drawn in a certain way or will it be like a small
showcase as to what one can do, be it drawing, inking, and so on.
And what or how should one draw this on standard pro comic boards, or
something smaller, cause i dont have one of those high end scanners
that will be able to scan the large board.
And last but not least, what if i only want to draw, i really cant ink worth a flip.
With all that said im willing to do at least four pages penicls that is so count me in, that is if you want.
Thank you for your time and great idea.

I think Matt Hawes is calling the rules on this, but if I can offer my two cents - since the end product is just seen here, I'm guessing that anysize you draw is fine - and based on the original FF project, there's tons of inkers here; we've even seen penciled pages put into photoshop and "darkened", so... again, I can't speak for Mr Hawes, but I'm thinking you're ok...
Matt?

Well, I was thinking of making the story look like a 1960s' comic book story, but it would be interesting to see what the rest of you think. I figure we'll let majority rule on this matter. Should the pages done by individuals by drawn in their own style, or should we try to emulate a period style?
Mike, are you comfortable doing a 1960s tale, or do you want to choose your own period? I mean, it doesn't have to be tied to the imaginary "Giant-Size Fantastic Four" comic if you want more freedom in what you want to write. That was just an idea. I'm open to any suggestions. First and foremost, this is about having fun.
BTW, I'll go ahead and claim three pages to pencil, ink, and color, too.
Edit: typo.

Hi! I'm glad you like the idea. The size of the paper you use will not really matter, overall, as long as the dimensions are roughly that of a comic book page. For the uploaded image, I say that we scale the image to be about 10 inches high, with a resolution of 72 DPI or so. That way all the pages posted online will be consistent. For the original art, basically, just work at a size you are comfortable with that you can scan easily.
Oh, and if you get the pencils finished and post them here, I can ink them for you.

I don't have a large surface area scanner either but I
find that it's relatively easy to scan panels separately
and then reassemble them in PhotoShop after the
fact. This get's a little trickier when doing splash
pages but with a little finesse this too can be
accomplished.
I agree with Matt, let's make the finished images 10
inches tall and 6.5 inches wide (16.2cm x 25.2cm) at
72dpi.
As to the style the pages might be rendered I say that
if you're not comfortable or interested in a
mid-1960's vibe then draw and ink it as you please,
by all means. But it's my opinion that the coloring
should be flat or as near flat as possible. Pulling out
the PhotoShop filters and effects --to my eyes-- is a
bit of a crutch and an easy distraction. I'd rather not
see that. Though, as I say, that's my opinion.
Who else is interested?

I'm working on something right now that I need to finish first and knock on wood my show starts up in feb. but I'm interested. I can't commit 100% so please don't hold anything up for me. The only things I really find myself drawn to these days are period pieces, so this sounds fun! If I can do a couple pages I will. If not maybe I could do a couple pin-ups like the ones that used to run in the annuals, spotlighting the heroes or villans or the vehicles the FF uses to get around.
A couple of requests-the black panther, the inhumans, and how about the masters of evil for a villian group. I don't recall them getting it on with the FF back in the day. it would be fun to draw a battle we haven't seen before. Just lots of cool action.
