Do I get the honor? Today, the Senate voted to repeal DADT, by a 65-31 margin. I confess, I doubted it would happen -- but I couldn't be happier it did! A step toward dignity!

It is indeed welcome, long-overdue news.
Now if they would only repeal the first rule of Fight Club...

As someone who has served this news makes me very happy. I have a friend that I served with who was gay. To this day he is still in the military and will finally be able to be open about who he is.
This is a man who felt so strongly about what our country stands for that he was willing to hide who he was to the world just for the honor of serving.

This may be my only chance to write this, so here goes: for your part in this, well done, Joseph Lieberman.

About damn time indeed! As a former sailor who served before DA/DT I know there's some prejudice to overcome, but even in the 1980's there were plenty of servicemen who didn't think gays needed to be excluded from military service. And I'm quite sure there were a few gay sailors quietly serving along side me back then.

I hate to throw cold water on the celebrations, but with the repeal of DADT, doesn't this mean that the rules go back to what they were before when homosexuals were drummed out of the service either by court martial and/or dishonorable discharge?
