Hiya guys this is my first post here, I've read lots of stuff here in the past but only registered recently.

What motivated me to finally get around to registering was the blog post I wrote the other day about Jim Shooter's revival of the Gold Key properties (Magnus, Solar, Turok etc.) at Dark Horse.

Basically, my main point was that Shooter would do well to hire JB. He is exactly the type of high profile, under-used talent that is needed for these properties. Shooter used Barry Windsor-Smith in a similar role at Valiant.

So as this is the main forum for Byrne fans, I'd love to hear what you guys think about all this. Looking through the archives it seems that JB has expressed interest in these characters in the past. I dont know what his attitude about working with Shooter again would be though.

Edit: I don't know why my post is showing in a broken format - can anyone help out? (Fixed it - must have been a problem with the chrome browser).

One of the joys of my comic reading days was when I discovered Dr Solar in a box at a yard sale.  Despite thinking I had a pretty good knowledge of comics, I had never heard of the guy - and he was fascinating, and art poped, and each issue was filled with odd-ball science and various games and things.  I went out and found a few dozen issues at various specialty shops and was thrilled with this new find.

A few years later, there was the revival, and my interest was instanlty piqued - till I read the first issue. 

It was terrible, yeah, but more to the point, it wasn't just the lousy job they did on it, it was the fact the book was perfect for it's time and era and wouldn't work today. 

Now - if anyone could make Solar readable for me, it would be JB - but to me it wasn't so much the character, but it was the whole retro-y package.

Very happy to see Shooter back as writer & editor.

And yes, i'ld like to see JB there.

As much as it would be cool to see JB on these characters I know it won't happen with Shooter there.  Besides I don't think I need to see a Valiant re-do.  The characters I would like to see just under someone else's watch that hasn't done them before.

I would love to see Byrne on the actual Gold Key Dr. Solar. The Valiant version of the character, not much interest in. I want to see the Man of the Atom as an honest to gosh superhero fighting robots, aliens, super villains and menaces. Not some warmed over superhero-as-god concept.

I wonder how Shooter is going to handle them differently than he did at Valiant. Magnus is a bit of a one-trick pony.

So it seems as though Shooter will in fact be limited to writing and packaging. I know he endears himself to many folks, but I wonder how well he will mix with Dark Horse's editing pool.
And any past conflicts aside, I think it would be super cool to see Byrne's take on Solar especially.
