Speaking of getting it wrong --- here's a little item I would love to pick
up, if only they'd done it right.

The chin must have gotten lost the last time Iron Man stuck it inside his
collar.

Yeah, I guess it should be gold if they were going to style it like that.

It's interesting, I read those issues over the summer via the black and white Essential volume...now looking at those early covers in color, the gold/yellow just doesn't look right!

I have always wondered why the chin disappeared on some later issues of Tales of Suspense.  The helment looks like the one one these covers. It is an obvious departure form Tales of Suspense #39.

The chin didn't disappear when Iron Man turned gold. Note that they
continued to use the first cover image as the corner symbol. Mostly, it was
artistic license that made it come and go.

It looks like with:

Don Heck-He drew the armor with Chin

Jack Kirby-Ne drew him without the Chin

Thank you. Man, I always thought that Kirby did the layouts and Heck finished that cover.  Which, it is even more curious to me, why such a departure in the style of Iron Man's helmet. (artistic license aside). The diffrence of the two styles of helmets really chnges the look of the armor in a big way.  For me anyway.  Suspense #41 has always been one of my favorite covers.

Stan seemed to have trouble with that word.

Not all that surprising. In school, I was taught it was pronounced FA-ROW-
AH, which always made it hard to spell right.

(Dig that early appearance by the "rocky" Thing!)
