Every writer seems to shift the focus of Dr. Stange's adventures, whether its classic Marvel cosmic entities like Eternity and Nightmare, greater old ones/outer gods, vampires, traditional villains (Mordo, Umar, Dormammu), or just plain (?) old super hero stories.  What genre do you prefer, or do you like the variety?  Dr. Strange is one of the few characters where writers can pretty much do anything they like, and it still is a Dr. Strange story...magic, I guess.

I haven't read a whole lot of Dr. Strange but I read Essential Dr. Strange vol. 1 and very much enjoyed the Ditko issues.  As soon as Ditko left I felt the series completely lost its way.  Like they had no idea what to do with the character.  I found the second half of that volume difficult to get through.

Over the years I have enjoyed Dr. Strange as an interesting guest appearance here or there where he does something cool and then leaves...JB's Galactus story in FF comes to mind.

I like Ditko's style too.

It was kind of like Sherlock Holmes except with magic thrown in. People come to him with cases and he investigates it. It reminded me of Edgar Allen Poe for some reason.

I also agree with Gerry's point about him not being all knowing yet.

Who is the board's biggest Doctor Strange fan?  Cuz, I think I am one of Clea's biggest fans.

Do you guys mean Gerry?  In all the years I've been a member, I've never actually read anything Gerry had to say about Doctor Strange.  Just lots of artwork samples.

Remember that Pocket Books paperback that reprinted the first several Dr. Strange stories? I read that thing 'til it fell apart. Loved it!

Thomas, the Pocket Books were my first experience with Dr. Strange.  I like a good mix of cosmic, small human issues, and bad guys.  He is like Thor, he needs to come back to earth every so often or else he is hard to identify with.

I like the mix of stories you can get with Dr. Strange, but my favorites tend to be the bizarre adventures. I love the Steve Englehart/Frank Brunner stories, for example.

I like the psychadelic Strange Tales era. Colan drew a pretty neat Doc as I recall....
