Four issues planned for the Cyclops Robot, and no recollection at all?
Dude, it was over 25 years ago!

That cyclops saying I'm a robot programed by Prof X is awesome.
You have an interesting definition of the word "awesome", my friend.

Wow, if Mariko had been killed (by Sabretooth, I imagine), that would have probably spared us the Wolverine as failed samurai notion that became the mantra after the WOLVERINE limited series.
Also, was there a planned prior relationship between Wolverine and Sabretooth?
Cool stuff to find lying around, Cory.

Once again, I love this forum!
Thanks for sharing this gem, Cory. Very interesting indeed.
I would have been thrilled to read a X-Men/Avengers cross-over, or an X-
Men #150 by Claremont/Byrne/Austin!

Cory, this paper makes me envious as well as curious. Death of Mariko (Claremont DID love Clavell's "Shogun", didn't he?), death of Sabretooth? Wow!

"Bloody hell! What a great little scrap of paper to
happen upon!"
I must confess, clicking on this link and suddenly
seeing that scan made me feel a little faint. It's like if
someone showed you the original setlist from the
most legendary concert ever performed by your
favorite band. I second the "Bloody hell!" sentiment.
"And on the matter of "breather" issues, I thought the
"X-Men in Japan" was a sort of breather issue, in that
it was a single issue story that acted
as a break between "X-Men in the Savage Land" and
"X-Men vs Alpha
Flight," and all that was happening between those
story lines."
The X-Men in Japan lasted two issues. Andrew, you
may be thinking of the "X-Men in a boat" issue that
was mostly dedicated to the Prof. X/Amahl Farouk
flashback. *That* was a single issue that came in
between the Savage Land arc and the two part
Japan/Moses Magnum arc.
(Following the format of the above list, it went:
111 -- Mesmero
112 -- Magneto I
113 -- Magneto II
114 -- Savage Land I
115 -- Savage Land II (Sauron)
116 -- Savage Land III (Garrokk)
117 -- X-Men in the Ocean / Prof. X flashback
118 -- X-Men in Japan I
119 -- X-Men in Japan II
120 -- Alpha Flight I
121 -- Alpha Flight II
122 -- "Breather"?/Aracade prologue)

I mentioned in another thread, I would have traded all of Sabretooth's subsequent appearances to have read the Claremont/Byrne story with his death. The Magneto-Phoenix #150 sounds like it would have been pretty awesome as well.

Something else I found in the closet.
A little back-story, back in the day JB used to visit Grandpa Takes A Trip Comic-shop once in a while. When John broke the news that Mariko was going to die and Wolverine was going to kill Sabertooth out of revenge, the last few panels of the last page of the first part were to be of Wolverine cradling Mariko's body and the last panel was Wolverine raising his head with an expression of grief and hatred. I asked John what that would look like and he drew this free-hand with a ballpoint pen. At first he drew a tear welling up in the corner of his eye thought better of it and penned over it.
